Warner Bros. will bring moviegoers back to the magical world of that famous chocolate factory run by Willy Wonka with the new film "Wonka," currently scheduled for release on March 17, 2023.

Acting as a prequel to the famous novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," written by Roald Dahl, the film will explore the story behind how a young Willy Wonka made his claim to fame with the otherworldly factory.

The origin story has been in the works for a while now, with "Paddington" director Paul King taking on the project and "Paddington" producer David Heyman joining as well.

The first 1971 movie "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory" had Gene Wilder playing Wonka, and the 2005 Tim Burton remake, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," featured Johnny Depp in the titular role, so we'll be curious to see which iconic actor will be next to play this fascinating character.

The exact details of this film are still being kept under wraps, so we'll look forward to more updates on how this chocolate maker came to glory...and we're hoping we get a cameo from some of the Oompa-Loompas.
