The Boy from Medellín - May 7

Filmmaker Matthew Heineman ("A Private War") takes us behind the scenes as global reggaeton superstar J Balvin prepares for his sold-out concert in his hometown, Medellín, Colombia. Not only is this concert one of the most important of his career, but it also coincides with growing political unrest in the capital city. J Balvin has a platform, and he must decide if it's worth it to alienate some of his fans by wading into political waters.

Saint Maud - May 13

Were you creeped out by "The Unholy?" Well, here's a religious horror flick that will surely shock the socks off of you. Morfydd Clark stars as the titular Maud, a devout Roman Catholic nurse. When a former dancer (Jennifer Ehle) is put under her care, Maud becomes obsessed with the belief that she must be saved, and only Maud can save her. "Saint Maud" stunned critics when it debuted at the 2019 Toronto Film Festival. It was slated for a 2020 Spring release until COVID thwarted those plans. After a quiet on-demand release, hopefully its appearance on Amazon (and Hulu) will get more people to discover this horror gem.

Director Michael Gracey ("The Greatest Showman") turns his camera on pop superstar Pink, as she hits the road for her 2019 Beautiful Trauma World Tour. Gracey takes you behind the scenes to show how the popstar juggles being a performer, mother, and businesswoman. The doc's release coincides with Pink's upcoming album and single, which will all share the same name. Last year, Pink shocked fans when she announced she and her son tested positive for COVID.

Amazon has a good collection of classics in May, especially if what you're looking to watch is something more creepy and chilling. For starters, you can take in the "Alien" sequels, but maybe you should just stick with James Cameron's 1986 follow-up "Aliens." There are also the first two films of the "Resident Evil" franchise, and M. Night Shyamalan's late-90s action and horror hits, "The Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable." On the thrilling side, Amazon will get your adrenaline running with William Friedkin's 1971 Best Picture winner "The French Connection," John Guillermin's fiery disaster classic "The Towering Inferno," or Sam Mendes' modern James Bond hit "Skyfall."
