The Tomorrow War - 7/2

Amazon and Chris Pratt bring big-screen bombast home this July 4th weekend with this sci-fi war thriller. Pratt stars as a former Green Beret, now bio teacher, who is drafted into an unlikely scenario. He and his team of military vets are sent to the future to fight a war that hasn't happened yet. Originally slated for a theatrical release, "The Tomorrow War" was sold to Amazon amid Paramount's scheduling shifts during the pandemic. "The Tomorrow War" is 100% pure popcorn thrills that you may wish you were experiencing in the cinema.

Jason Segel stars as the titular friend who comes to the rescue when tragedy strikes his couple-friends (Casey Affleck and Dakota Johnson). Based on a true story, director Gabriela Cowperthwaite's indie drama was well-received when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2019. Unfortunately, COVID meant that it would be another year before the film found its way to screens. "Our Friend" is a heartwarming drama anchored by the warm performances of the leads.

Kate Beckinsale has proved herself a capable action lead facing off vampires in the "Underworld" franchise. Now, she stars in this female-driven action-comedy from indie director Tanya Wexler. Beckinsale is Lindy, a badass bouncer with a murderous edge. To keep her rage in check, Lindy relies on the electric shock from her electro-lined vest. But that all goes out the window when her ex is murdered.
