Halloween is edging closer and closer, which means we're getting very close to the perfect excuse to overload on all our favorite candies.

We also realize that the month of October has another sugar-filled holiday that falls before the night of horror (tomorrow to be exact)...it's National Dessert Day.

In celebration of this chocolate-dipped holiday, we've picked out a few sweet movies that are bound to tantalize the tastebuds.

If you're looking for an easy way to describe "bittersweet," just order any of the pies at Joe's diner that have an obscure name. Though the sweets you get from waitress Jenna Hunterson (played with grit and affection by Keri Russell) may be the best you've ever had, they're probably the hardest pies she's ever had to make, not physically but emotionally.

One of her fan favorites is the "Bad Baby Pie," so you can probably guess that one is inspired by the events happening in her life....

    Waitress

    Comedy Drama / 2007 / PG-13

Jenna (Keri Russell) works in a diner in a small Southern town and is a genius at creating luscious desserts, but her marriage to an overbearing lout (Jeremy Sisto) makes happiness impossible. When she discovers she is pregnant, she makes plans to skip town before her condition is obvious. However, she begins an affair with the new town doctor (Nathan Fillion), who is the only one who knows her secret.

Come with us on this next adventure, and you'll discover a world of pure imagination with gummy bears bigger than your head and trees that have candy cane branches! This chocolate wonderland is one that we can only dream of, and one that you'll never be able to forget, no matter your age. Of all three must-stream movies on this list, this film can't be passed up. This will always and forever be a candy-covered (and surreal) classic with Gene Wilder giving the greatest tour a kid could wish for...except for some minor technical difficulties.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

    Children / 1971 / G

The last of five coveted "golden tickets" falls into the hands of a sweet but very poor boy. He and his grandpa then get a tour of the strangest chocolate factory in the world. The owner leads five young winners on a thrilling and often dangerous tour of his factory.

  • Matilda

Though this movie may not have desserts at the center of its plot, there is an unforgettable scene involving a massive chocolate cake. From the vision of director Danny DeVito, the story invovles a young girl named Matilda (precocious Mara Wilson) who has an intellectual (and at times telekinetic) gift that she uses to keep all of her loved ones safe from certain characters in the story...one of whom is a boy forced to eat an entire chocolate cake as punishment.

To be completely honest, we're not sure if this will make you want to eat dessert or not, but it is noteworthy enough to be mentioned in regards to this underrated family gem.

    Matilda

    Children / 1996 / PG

This film adaptation of a Roald Dahl work tells the story of Matilda Wormwood (Mara Wilson), a gifted girl forced to put up with a crude, distant father (Danny DeVito) and mother (Rhea Perlman). Worse, Agatha Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), the evil principal at Matilda's school, is a terrifyingly strict bully. However, when Matilda realizes she has the power of telekinesis, she begins to defend her friends from Trunchbull's wrath and fight back against her unkind parents.
