We knew that Netflix had promised to release a new original film every week for the entire year, but what we didn't consider is all the other films we love that they'd be adding to the library.
One title that was placed in the catalog on Sunday, and is currently on their top 10 trending list, is "The Conjuring 2." The James Wan directed supernatural thrill ride has piqued some interest on the internet, with movie fans wanting to learn more about the Conjuring Universe overall. So, for this Tuesday's must-stream movies, we're recommending the top 3 films in the Conjuring universe that horror fans can catch up on right away.
Later this year, we're expecting the highly anticipated release of "The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It," which will be opening in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously. Now's the perfect time to get all the facts before going into the next haunted-house-of-a-movie.
Although "The Conjuring 2" is the film currently trending on Netflix, nothing beats the original. The film can be described as a terrifying start to a scarily real franchise. You can think of it also as a good indicator of whether or not you'll enjoy the films that follow. It's not for the faint of heart. Where most horror films use gore and carnage to frighten, this film is a psychological nightmare, and makes you question how much of the film has been dramatized compared to the actual events that occurred.
The Conjuring 2
Assuming you watched the first film, you might think you've seen it all and that there's no way you could feel anywhere near as scared as you did previously...well that might be true if this was anything like the first film, but it isn't. This new story, again coming straight from the true files of Ed and Lorraine Warren, is one that makes you reconsider what might really happen if there were angry, vengeful spirits cooped up in your house. Though there are plenty of demonic jump scares similar to the first film, this one features the possession of a little girl that will make you audibly gasp at some point.
For anyone afraid of dolls being inhabited by an evil spirit, you might not be cut out for the Conjuring Universe anyways. Though this film was released in 2017, it actually is the birth of Annabelle and should be watched before "Annabelle" and "The Conjuring," if you're looking to follow the cinematic timeline. The tragic introduction of Annabelle into the Conjuring Universe places her in a house full of orphaned girls whom she wreaks havoc upon, with no Ed and Lorraine Warren to come to their rescue.
