Drama / 2021 / R

Deputy Sheriff Joe "Deke" Deacon joins forces with Sgt. Jim Baxter to search for a serial killer who's terrorizing Los Angeles. As they track the culprit, Baxter is unaware that the investigation is dredging up echoes of Deke's past, uncovering disturbing secrets that could threaten more than his case.

A trailer for an unexpectedly juicy crime-thriller has dropped on our doorstep today, featuring three Academy Award winners - Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto.

Kern County Deputy Sheriff Joe "Deke" Deacon (Denzel Washington) has a seemingly clean track record and yet he's been working in the same position for 15 years.

Helping to gather evidence for a case, he decides to pursue a murderer who's on a relentless killing spree. In doing so, though, some things from his own past are uncovered that could explain why he's remained in the shadows for so long instead of moving up within the department.

With the aid of L.A. Sheriff Department Sergeant Jim Baxter (Rami Malek), Deke is determined to nail this killer and based on how emotional the hunt is for the officer, we're guessing his ill-defined past plays a part in his passion for solving the case.

Their primary suspect (Jared Leto) fits the bill of this serial killer. He's known for his ability to move quickly and often, and this particular party has so many miles on his car, we're a little surprised the car even works.

Red flags, anyone?

The interactions between everyone in the trailer build up an insane level of tension. Seeing three of Hollywood's greats switching between creepy, crazy, and angry at a moment's notice is extremely intriguing.

It's also worth noting that when you watch the trailer the first time around, you might not recognize Jared Leto when he makes his first appearance.

Also, viewing this preview, it's not entirely clear if there's only one murderer amongst these gentlemen.
