Of all Disney's villainesses, there are only a handful that are top of mind when looking back on our childhood. One of those is the voguish woman with an unrelenting desire for Dalmatian fur, who goes by the name Cruella de Vil. Breaking down the trailer for her latest film, we're able to get a closer look at the lady's history.
This black-and-white haired character with deep pockets is used to having anything she could dream of, but in the new video, we get to see how the woman came to be so wicked. In 1970s London, before she was known as Cruella, her actual name was Estella de Vil, and she was an aspiring fashion designer with an interest in dogs' skins (which is still a little weird but explains a lot).
In the 1996 film "101 Dalmatians," Glenn Close wore the fur coat, but in this origin story "La La Land" star Emma Stone is the one showing us how cruel this woman must have been to be given the name Cruella. Alongside Stone is quite the supporting cast featuring talents such as Emma Thompson as the Baroness, Mark Strong as Boris, Paul Walter Hauser as Horace, Emily Beecham as Anita, Joel Fry as Jasper, Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Tabitha, and Jamie Demetriou as Gerald. Also, at the helm is “I, Tonya” director Craig Gillespie.
The sparks and flare of this first look at "Cruella" can only be compared to the insanity and outlandishness of Margot Robbie's performance in "Birds of Prey." Emma Stone looks like she's turning up the crazy to the maximum level in this performance and we can't wait to see it. Be sure to keep an eye out set to hit theaters on May 28, 2021.
