Warner Bros. decided to surprise fans with a new trailer for Matt Reeves' "The Batman" over the weekend. The preview shows off some of the characters we'll be seeing in this reboot of the famous franchise. For starters, we see more of Robert Pattinson as he embodies this less remorseful, more hardcore version of Batman. We also get a glimpse of Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman in action. But most importantly, and a reveal that we still can't comprehend, this trailer shows the absolutely unrecognizable Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot aka the Penguin. We're also teased with almost seeing our main villain, the Riddler, but actor Paul Dano's face is never actually shown. Setting our excitement aside, let's look a bit closer at the new trailer and break it down.

'The Batman': Trailer Breakdown

The new story starts with James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) and officers from the Gotham City Police Department storming into a random diner to arrest the Riddler. Though he's not dressed up in his green getup, we can pretty much assume that it's him. We know this because as they escort him out, and we see his iconic question mark symbol in his coffee. Immediately after, we catch Batman in the middle of a brawl with a mob of about 9 or 10 goons. As he takes them down one by one, we notice that all of their faces are painted white. As the trailer continues, we can hear the despair in Batman's voice as butler Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis) tries to warn him that he might lose everything. He's also warned by Catwoman that things will only get worse for him.

After ignoring all the warnings, Batman fights his way through to find the Penguin. On a quick side note, after you see the Penguin, look hard for any semblance of Colin Farrell's face. It's impossible! Even his voice is completely different. As the preview continues, the action picks up and features a Batman so brutal and aggressive that even Catwoman can't believe what she's seeing. Just as the Penguin thinks he's killed the Batman; he's bulldozed over by the Batmobile. With the Penguin barely conscious sitting upside down in his flipped car, Batman slowly walks over to finish the job. Make sure to check out the full trailer in all its gritty glory below.
