Who wins? Take a closer look.

Oscars Best Pictures Nominees Tournament – Final Four – Round 1:

Contender: Nomadland

Chloe Zhao's heavily favored "Nomadland" stars Frances McDormand in an epic, gorgeous, modern day Western. The story involves real-life nomads who exist unmoored from the norms of typical American living. They know the freedom of not being tied to one specific place, and the hardship. The film's a masterpiece that burns slowly and says a lot about real people and true value. It's been nominated for over 150 awards. The movie's won over 90, including Best Motion Picture – Drama at the Golden Globes.

Contender: Judas and the Black Messiah

This is the upstart. The movie revolves around the government's investigation of Black Panther leader Fred Hampton in the late '60s. It covers his eventual killing at the hands of authorities. As an awards contender, the movie's a powerhouse on the rise. Star Daniel Kaluuya won the Golden Globe and SAG awards for Best Supporting Actor. He's a lock for Oscar gold. But if this film also wins for Best Picture, it won't be a total surprise.
