Noovie Closeup

This month's Noovie Closeup video with host Perri Nemiroff covers a couple new previews for films getting a lot of buzz online.

The first is the trailer for one of Disney's most popular villainesses, "Cruella." Cruella de Vil of course is the wicked woman we first laid eyes on in Disney's animated film "101 Dalmatians." Now she's back, with Emma Stone putting on the fur coat for this live-action adaptation. The origin story follows the journey of Cruella in 1970s London. In addition, the film finds Cruella morphing from street-wise fashion designer to the iconic character we love to loathe.

Craig Gillespie ("Lars and the Real Girl") directs the new film. Emma Thompson, Paul Walter Hauser and Mark Strong co-star. Anticipation for the movie is off the charts. The trailer premiere racked up more than 71 million views after just 24 hours online.

Mortal Kombat

Another preview that found great success this month was the first look at Warner Bros.' film "Mortal Kombat." Years in the making, the movie is a reboot of the hit '90s film, which was one of the first video game-to-movie adaptations. The story follows a washed-up MMA fighter who becomes involved with warriors bound to defend Earthrealm. Meanwhile, the forces of Outworld conspire to take them down.

Simon McQuoid makes his directorial debut with the video game/movie update. Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee and Josh Lawson star as the various familiar fighters.

The red-band trailer for the action flick is now officially the biggest red-band trailer of all time. It garnered more than 116 million views within the first week of its release. The number of views passed up previous record-holders "Logan" and "Deadpool 2." Fans new and old can't wait for the insanity. Very soon, the warriors will reunite. In other words, let the fantastical fights and fatalities begin.
