What started many years ago as a barbaric fighting game has now evolved into a cinema-quality feature film. It's true that there have been a few movies already. But this one looks like it might be the most wicked of them all. Also, one thing that has always made this franchise iconic is the diversity of its characters. Not only in gender and race, but in personality and morality. There's at least one character to choose from that everyone can relate to. And if not, there's someone that they want to root for. As we prepare for the tournament of a lifetime in the new "Mortal Kombat," the cast tells us a little more in our Noovie Backlot about what drew them to the film and what winning in this universe looks like.
This notably savage franchise is known for its gore and shockingly graphic fights. You can count on most fights to end with someone's head getting cut off or someone's heart getting ripped out. And somehow these over-the-top fatalities intrigue us even more. The biggest appeal from the video games was typing in the code to finish off your opponent with a horrific death. Liu Kang actor Ludi Lin admits that he played the games when he was younger as a guilty pleasure. Whereas Josh Lawson who will be playing Kano says humans in general have a secret bloodlust.
Other members of the cast are looking at this movie and experiencing it through a slightly different lens. Sub-Zero actor Joe Taslim expresses how lucky he feels and how special this film is to him because everyone put their heart and soul into it. And finally, Chin Han who will be playing the main villain Shang Tsung talks about how the characters within the same realm will need to work together in order to win. Oh, and just for fun, Scorpion actor Hiroyuki Sanada gives us a little preview of Scorpion's iconic line, "Get over here!"
