First off, a disclaimer: we’re Keanu fans. To see the much-anticipated Chapter 3 in the John Wick movie series receive near-universal critical acclaim prior to its opening this week…well…there’s a good reason for the smiles on our faces.
For 30+ years, Keanu’s combination of earnest enthusiasm, commitment, resilience and humility have made him a favorite amongst the moviegoing audiences who support him. He’s a performer that has time and again overcome the odds against his detractors – those who would merely dismiss him as that “woah” guy with the limited repertoire.
We get it. Keanu Reeves is not Robert Downey Jr. And you know what? That’s a good thing. There’s room in the universe to appreciate both kinds of movie stars.
The truth is when Reeves is cast in the right role, where his heart-on-the-sleeve soulfulness is an attribute, and his physical presence is critical…there’s no one better.
Or "Point Break."
Or "The Matrix."
Or "Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure."
You remember Keanu because he actually is uniquely great in those projects and countless others. So, to honor the man, and his latest film, we present the 10 best movie review quotes about "John Wick: Chapter 3" we’ve seen so far…in the hope that you’ll be as jazzed as we are to see it.
“I don’t mean to give the impression that John Wick 3 is anything grander than a gorgeously choreographed, gratuitously violent action movie. But as gorgeously choreographed, gratuitously violent action movies go, it’s high art.”-Chris Nashawaty, EW
“It’s almost a karmic answer to everything else in the action-movie genre, where there's usually a distinct lack of responsibility in the wanton violence: In the “Wick”-verse, a bloody action usually leads to much more trouble later.”-Brian Truitt, USA Today
“An epic of choreographed mayhem that expands the Wickiverse in mostly pleasing ways, it is destined to satisfy fans of this surprise-hit franchise: If its ludicrous aspects bug you, what the hell are you doing here?”-John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporter
“Like John Wick himself, this third chapter feels like a lean, mean, fighting machine – and, yes, it’s the best film of the franchise so far, even surpassing the first film.”-Mike Ryan, Uproxx
“Regardless of what one might think of Keanu Reeves’ merits as an actor, the role has always seemed as tailor-made for him as Wick’s stylish formalwear; it might even surpass The Matrix’s Neo as his best bid for the action-movie-cool hall of fame.”-Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, AV/Film
“…has once again upped the ante in terms of insane balls-through-the-wall gun-fu and bone-snapping, cartilage-tearing fisticuffs, it’s only fair to now designate the John Wick franchise as the greatest action saga of the century so far…”-Robert Kojder, Flickering Myth
“John Wick 3 is an ass-kicking, ramped-up thrill ride with amazing characters that continues to prove that director Stahelski and Reeves make a perfect cinematic partnership.”-JimmyO, Joblo.com
“If you thought Wick 2’s turbo-powered takedowns could not be out-powered, think on: intermittent stumbles aside, Parabellum swiftly asserts itself as 2019’s actioner to beat.”-Kevin Harley, GamesRadar.com
"Wick 3, starring Keanu Reeves in the role he was born to play, hits you so hard in the thrill zone that instead of feeling exhausted when director Chad Stahelski calls a halt at 130 minutes, you’re panting for Chapter 4."-Peter Travers, Rolling Stone
“Somehow, each new entry in the action franchise only ups its game, going bigger, bolder, and crazier. With John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, director Chad Stahelski takes the series to new heights, upping the stakes, expanding the mythology, and unleashing one jaw-dropping action sequence after another, to a point where it becomes damn near euphoric. John Wick 3 is a bone-cracking, horse-kicking, dog-biting, book-smashing, ax-throwing action masterpiece.”-Chris Evangelista, Slashfilm.com
