40 years ago, the iconic action-adventure flick "Raiders of the Lost Ark" made its premiere on the big screen. Can you believe it? Something else we can't wrap our mind around is the fact that "Indiana Jones 5" is tentatively set to be released in July 2022. Harrison Ford will be dusting off the whip and jumping back into action after all these years. So, in honor of the 40th anniversary of the first Indiana Jones film, we're giving you 10 of his best action sequences to celebrate. Indy said it best himself, "If you want to be a good archeologist, you gotta get out of the library!”

#10 - Brings a Gun to a Sword Fight ('Raiders of the Lost Ark')

Have you ever heard the expression "don't bring a knife to a gunfight"? Well, this is probably the first cinematic instance of that scenario playing out. We'll admit, this isn't anywhere near the craziest action sequence. But it might be the most unexpected one. Right as this Arabian swordsman starts to get warmed up, Indy shoots him.

#9 - Airplane Fist Fight ('Raiders of the Lost Ark')

Next up on our list, we have Indy engaging in a fist fight with a massive Nazi soldier. Though Indy isn't able to put up much of a fight, he uses every opportunity he can to distract or outsmart this guy. Indy needs to get some hits in too. Again, not too much action in this clip but we do see Indy almost get run over by the plane in the middle of his fight.

#8 - Bar Fight ('Raiders of the Lost Ark')

When the leader of the Nazi army is about to kill Indy's girl, he whips into action. No seriously, he whips the fire poker out of the Nazi leader's hand. And the bar fight begins. Shots are exchanged with Indy killing a few of these men, and the room starts to go up in flames.

#7 - Escape from Castle Brunwald ('Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade')

Most of the situations that Indy finds himself in are so ridiculous that they're laughable. That said, we're going to choose this one as our favorite. Indy and his father (Sean Connery) are tied to a chair together about to be burned alive when they discover a secret door. On the other side is a room full of their enemies. So, you'd think that since they know how it works, they would be careful to open it again, right? Wrong. They open it up again and their cover is blown. But their escape from this treacherous place is one to take note of.

#6 - Venice Boat Chase ('Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade')

All of the sequences so far have been ones on land. Now we're showing you one on the water. As Indy tries to throw one of his enemies off of his boat, there's a little bit of a miscommunication between him and his partner. They both call each other crazy for trying to drive the boat in between to massive ships that are slowly coming together. As they barely thread the needle, they leave the enemy boat to be pinched by the ships and immediately explode. Whew, that was a close one.

#5 - Mine Cart Chase ('Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom')

This next entry on our list of best action sequences is one that any real Indiana Jones fan will recognize. When we say that this scene goes off the rails a little bit, we actually mean it. This minecart thrill ride is what we would imagine it would be like to ride a rollercoaster without a seat belt while being shot at. Indy saves the day per usual, but he's definitely going to need to buy a new pair of shoes.

#4 - Raft Skydive ('Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom')

It's clear that there's some CGI involved in this next stunt, but the idea of using an inflatable raft to jump out of a plane is the coolest thing we've ever heard. Way to think on your toes, Indy! Once their raft lands in the snow, it's off to the races. As they barrel down the mountain, they reach a cliff where they fly off and land in the middle of a river. When we break down this sequence of events, we realize just how lucky Indy really is.

#3 - Desert Tank Chase ('Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade')

Here we have Indy on a horse versus a man in a tank. That seems like a fair enough matchup. It's already impressive to see Indy keeping up using a horse, but we're even more impressed with Indy's transition from riding the horse to fighting a full group of Nazis on their tank. And he barely escapes death when he's literally clinging on for life between a rock and a hard place (with the hard place being a tank).

#2 - Desert Truck Chase ('Raiders of the Lost Ark')

For this sequence, we have Indy going from horse to car, to in front of the car, and then to underneath the car. The way that Indy hangs on the front of a moving car alone takes guts. And as expected in Indy fashion, he's able to make his way up, down, and all around this car until he ultimately ends up in the driver seat.

#1 - Temple Run ('Raiders of the Lost Ark')

We've reached the end of our Indiana Jones action sequences, but you know we saved the best for last. Don't worry, we didn't forget the most iconic sequence of all time from this franchise. We're obviously referring to the massive boulder trap that rolls towards Indy as he makes his way out of the Peruvian temple. We also get to see him do his iconic slide underneath a closing door, grabbing his whip just in the nick of time.
