The movie star that every generation will recognize, Harrison Ford, is turning 79 today! It's insane to think that he's been flourishing in this industry for 50+ years and is still continuing to charge hard with his fifth installment of the Indiana Jones franchise set to be released next year. To celebrate Ford's breadth of work, we've chosen 5 must-see Harrison Ford movies that you need to check out if you haven't already.
Our first pick is the one that has Ford as a "blade runner" where his job is to hunt down bioengineered humanoids called Replicants. This dystopian sci-fi film is an absolute classic, and it gave us one of Ford's iconic roles, Rick Deckard. Ford reprised his role from this film somewhat recently with the release of director Denis Villeneuve's 2017 film "Blade Runner 2049." When considering all of the unforgettable roles that Ford has had, this is certainly one of his most iconic.
This film almost earned Ford an Oscar as he was nominated for Best Actor. Ford plays police officer John Book who's trying to solve a murder with the help of an Amish boy. The boy was a witness to the crime so he must be protected. When things go sideways, officer Book ends up staying in their Amish community to lay low for a while. At the very least, you should watch this flick to check out Harrison Ford living amongst an Amish community. But even though he's living with them, that doesn't mean he abides by all their rules.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Harrison Ford going up against a Nazi army to obtain a very sought-after ancient artifact... sounds like our kind of movie. This is the first film where we get to meet Dr. Indiana Jones and his whip. If there was ever a movie to make an archeologist look like a superhero, this one is it. And we can say with certainty that there's no scarcity of classic action sequences.
If you haven't seen by now that Harrison Ford is an unstoppable force that can't be reckoned with, then you need to watch this movie. Ford plays a man who's being blamed for his wife's murder and must find the real killer to clear his name. Out of all the movies on our list, Ford is doing the most cardio in this film. He's constantly being tracked and chased but he never slows down.
Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope
Finally, we reach the film that introduced the world to Ford as Han Solo. There's no question that this is the role that he gets recognized for the most. Harrison Ford played the captain of the Millennium Falcon in four different movies. And he never missed a beat. To fashion a character on the big screen that is then reprised many times over a span of 40+ years just goes to show how legendary Ford's performances as Solo have been and how much fans want to see more.
