We've been waiting and waiting for the resurgence of the legendary franchise since it was teased and now today Sony drops another, longer trailer for "Ghostbusters: Afterlife." It's been almost 40 years since the first film was released so we're excited to see what’s new and strange in the neighborhood. From what we can tell, there's a young group of kids that will be gearing up to catch some ghosts that are wreaking havoc around town. How did these ghosts emerge? Where did they come from? And, of course, who you gonna call? We only know the answer to the last question, but let's break down the new trailer and see what we can figure out.
"Ghostbusters: Afterlife": Trailer Breakdown
The trailer commences with a mother talking about her kids Trevor and Phoebe. She believes that she has a good understanding of the kind of person Trevor is. But she feels like Phoebe keeps her on the outside. She even wishes Phoebe might let loose more and get into some good trouble.
Be careful what you wish for mom. As the trailer progresses, we come to find that their deceased grandfather, who remains unnamed, left his old farmhouse for them. Because they're flat out broke, they've decided to make it their new home.
A new home can mean a new start for the single mother and her children. But what if this isn't any ordinary home? After the kids do some digging around, we learn that their grandfather was one of the Ghostbusters. If you remember the first trailer that came out more than a year ago, Phoebe discovers a jacket with the name Spengler on it...as in Dr. Egon Spengler (played by the late, great Harold Ramis). Phoebe is able to get her hands on a ghost trap while Trevor fixes up the iconic Ecto-1 and takes it for a joy ride.
Following their discoveries, chaos begins to ensue around the city. The only hope of the city's survival will be finding someone who knows how to catch ghosts. In the final moments before the trailer ends, a phone number is called...and a familiar voice answers it. Watch the new trailer to find out who exactly.
