Thanks to everyone who voted on Motion Picks (available in the Noovie Trivia app), our winner for the most captivating movie antihero goes to Severus Snape from the Harry Potter franchise.
The half-blood Head of the Slytherin House and Defence Against the Dark Arts professor Severus Snape. In our opinion, there is no better choice for a captivating movie antihero. If you look up the definition of an antihero, you'll see that it's not the same as a villain. An antihero is a protagonist that lacks heroic qualities.
Let's quickly rewind through this wizarding world of Harry Potter. Severus Snape was the unsung hero of the franchise, and here's why. He was constantly accused and berated by Harry Potter over the years while living his double life. But he lived that life to protect Harry. Snape's hatred and jealousy for Harry's father always existed, but his love for Harry's mother was always greater. He lived in the shadows while being questioned by everyone he knew. What kind of sad life is that?
When Snape was a student at Hogwarts, he was bullied by Harry's father. And yet he still dedicated his life to keep Harry safe. His character was the most complex of all. A tough exterior with a vulnerable heart. This is one of the most apt uses of the phrase "don't judge a book by its cover." In other words, Snape always had a bad rap. He himself was a chamber of secrets. And, he's this week's most captivating movie antihero.
